Subscribe for District Text Messages on Your Cellphone

Dear Families,

In February 2018, Seattle Public Schools is launching text messaging to help you stay up to date. Text messaging will be used in addition to our current communication methods.

Because text messaging is a new service for our district, we are launching the feature in phases. The districtwide text messages you can expect as we roll out this new service are:

  • School break and schedule reminders
  • Weather-related or urgent situation schedule changes
  • Major districtwide announcements

We encourage all parents and guardians to opt-in for this service. The district will be able to provide translated notices to families who prefer communications in Amharic, Chinese, Spanish, Somali and Vietnamese.

The process to opt-in to text messaging is simple and you can remove your cellphone number from this service at any time.

To subscribe: text the word ‘yes’ to the number 675-87.

You will know you were successful if you receive the following reply message in English, “You’re registered 4 SchoolMessenger notifications. Reply STOP to cancel, HELP for help MSG and data rates may apply. Msg freq varies.”

You will need to repeat this process for any cellphone that you wish to include.

The district will be officially launching the new service in February 2018, so until then you will not receive further text messages from Seattle Public Schools.

Please note, although the district does not charge you for this service, it does not pay for text message charges that may be incurred by you for sending or receiving text messages. Check with your cellular phone provider for possible charges.

You can read more about this new service on our website.
