Thanksgiving Break Events at Seattle Public Library

The Seattle Public Library has a variety of activities scheduled for children, tweens and teens every day of the Thanksgiving week school break. Beginning Friday, Nov. 22 through Sunday, Dec. 1, the Library will offer free programs ranging from crafts to playing video games, chess and more!

SCHEDULE

Buy-Nothing Day: Gift making – 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23 at the Central Library, 1000 Fourth Ave., Level 3, The Norcliffe Foundation Living Room, 206-386-4636. In honor of Buy-Nothing Day, join us in making hot cocoa mix with possible additional flavors, a calming fall “tea bath”, and fall leaf wreaths you can share. For all ages.

Detective Cookie’s Chess Club – 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26 at the Rainier Beach Branch, 9125 Rainier Ave. S., 206-386-1906. Children and teens, ages 7 and up, are invited to join the group. Family and community members are also welcome. Drop by to learn and play chess! For children & teens.

Youth Drop in Chess – 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26 at the High Point Branch, 3411 S.W. Raymond St., 206-684-7454. Come play a game of chess! Children and teens are invited to drop by for fun and casual games of chess. All skill levels are welcome. Chess sets and guidance by an adult chess coach will be available. For children & teens.

Teen Time – 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27 at the NewHolly Branch, 7058 32nd Ave. S., 206-386-1905. Drop in to hangout, make new friends and play games — including board and video games. For teens.

Middle School Early Release Wednesdays – 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27 at the Northeast Branch, 6801 35th Ave. N.E., 206-684-7539. Help us come up with a program name, plan programs, and create a welcoming space in the teen area. Snacks and games provided. For tweens and teens, grades 6 and up.

Teen Time – 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27 at the Rainier Beach Branch, 9125 Rainier Ave. S., 206-386-1906. Hang out with your friends and other teens your age! Play video games, board games, listen to music, talk and laugh out loud, and eat until the food runs out. For teens.

Apple Cup Screening – 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29 at the Central Library, 1000 Fourth Ave., Level 1, Microsoft Auditorium, 206-386-4636. Watch the UW Huskies and WSU Cougars on the big screen at the Library! For all ages.

Game On! – 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30 at the High Point Branch, 3411 S.W. Raymond St., 206-684-7454.      Enjoy the holiday weekend!  Today we offer crafts: origami and beading, board games, Xbox 360, Wii games and refreshments. Whether you are a gaming expert or newbie: here is your chance to get some game time, meet other gamers and hear about the Library’s programs. For all ages.

LibraryLab Academy: UV Light and Stop Motion Animation – 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30 at the Southwest Branch, 9010 35th Ave. S.W., 206-684-7455. Join us for a special LibraryLab Academy.
