New Softball Coach Has Winning Ways

Garfield’s defending state champion Girls Softball/Fastpitch team has its next Head Coach: Tyler Keys, whose deep experience includes coaching athletes at Seattle Prep, Cleveland High School and adult coed leagues.

Coach Keys grew up playing baseball, bowling and basketball in Wisconsin.  As a student athlete he achieved state honors and a scholarship to bowl for Calumet College of St. Joseph.

Moving to Seattle in 2013, Coach Keys started coaching select basketball, transitioning to Softball/Fastpitch in 2017 as an Assistant Coach at Seattle Prep and most recently Cleveland HS. He later became Cleveland’s Softball/Slow-pitch and Bowling Head Coach. This year his Softball/Slow-pitch team won Districts and went to State for the first time in the school’s history.

Coach Keys has also managed adult coed softball teams in the past six years, winning 17 tournaments and back-to-back three-time World Series finalist.
Garfield won the last WIAA high school Fastpitch tournament, in 2019, under Head Coach Ken Simpson. He resigned after the 2021 season, but continues to be a Board member of the Garfield Diamond Sports Booster Club.
