Expect Delays During Upcoming Alaskan Way Viaduct Closure beginning January

Dear families,

Please note the upcoming three-week closure of the Alaskan Way Viaduct/SR99 beginning Friday, January 11, and plan your trips accordingly.

Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) will close the Alaskan Way Viaduct for approximately three weeks beginning Friday, January 11 to realign the highway into the new tunnel.

Nearly all schools will be affected by the closure. Families should plan ahead for increased congestion and longer travel times during the upcoming construction.

Seattle Public Schools Transportation Department is working to proactively address the three-week closure. Bus drivers will begin their days earlier than usual to get to bus stops on time.

Travel time may be added to bus routes directly impacted. Families will be notified directly (call and individual letter) if your student’s pick up/drop off times will shift.

Contact the Seattle Public Schools Transportation Call Center for questions or information about your student’s bus route at 206-252-0900.

For additional information about the construction project, visit the Washington State DOT SR99 Closure webpage.
