April jazz events honor Quincy Jones

Garfield Jazz will twice perform a special show in April to pay tribute to the late Quincy Jones, Director of Bands Jared Sessink has announced.
Come see and hear “The Birth of a Band! – Garfield Jazz Tribute to Quincy Jones”:
- April 7, Dimitriou’s Jazz Alley, 7 pm. This is the premier intimate setting club for jazz in Seattle. In addition to honoring Quincy Jones, Garfield Jazz will be fundraising to sustain the wonderful supports offered to all kids at GHS who want to play jazz. Special guests will include Mayor Bruce Harrell and Quincy’s niece, Dana Frank. Tickets and info here.
- April 10, Quincy Jones Auditorium, 7 pm. In addition to the Jazz Alley, we’re going to be presenting a “home show” at Garfield. This event is free to the community.
This will be a great opportunity to learn more about Quincy Jones and his musical legacy during the years just after he graduated from Garfield in 1950, working with artists such as Count Basie, Frank Sinatra, and Ella Fitzgerald. Mr. Sessink said that the performances “will feature vocalists and many soloists as we explore his music.”
