Juniors and Sophomores can apply by Nov. 8 to go on a FREE journey to Birmingham, Montgomery, Selma, and Atlanta for an educational experience of a lifetime! The trip will be chaperoned by staff of Garfield, Museum Without Walls and Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle.

The trip spans March 1-8, 2024, and includes flights, transportation, food, and lodging for the following locations:

• Alabama

  • Birmingham – City Tour, Kelly Ingraham Park, 16th Street Baptist Church

  • Montgomery – Rosa Parks Museum, Montgomery Tour, The Legacy Museum, and The National Memorial for Peace and Justice

  • Selma – Annual Selma Bridge Crossing Jubilee

• Georgia

  • Atlanta – Civil Rights Tour & HBCU campus visits

Program Timeline

• November 2 – Trip & Application Info Session – 3:45 pm @ GHS

• November 8 – Applications due

• November 16 & 17 – Student Virtual Zoom Interviews

• December 7 – Accepted Family Info Night & Dinner – 6 pm @ GHS

• January 24 through February 28 – Weekly Wednesday Trip Prep Workshops from 2:30 – 4:00 pm @ GHS

• March 1-8, 2024 – Civil Rights Trail Trip

Commitments if selected for trip:

• COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement & Testing – Participating students will need to be COVID-19 vaccinated to attend the trip.  COVID testing will also be provided directly before and during the trip for participants.

• Attendance at Dec. 7 Accepted Family Night – Students and their families will get an overview of the trip, meet chaperones, and ask any questions that they may have.

• Weekly Workshops – There will be four mandatory workshops beginning January 18 leading up to the trip.  These workshops will provide opportunities for the participants to get to know each other, learn more about the trip, go over packing list, and more.  These will be in person at GHS from 2:30 – 4:00 pm.
