Class of 2021GHS/SPS

Attn: Senior Families! Input Needed on Graduation & Grad Night

As the Class of 2021 approaches graduation in June, the school administration and PTSA will be reaching out shortly to survey seniors and their parents for thoughts regarding the graduation ceremony and the Grad Night party.  Please be on the lookout for these surveys and share your feedback as soon as you can.

Traditionally, Garfield’s graduation ceremony is held outdoors at Memorial Stadium after which seniors are bused to a PTSA-hosted Grad Night party.  The Grad Night party venue is a large indoor/outdoor space and would comply with current COVID capacity guidelines.  An in-person graduation ceremony would require a variance issued by Governor Inslee.

There is a joint effort among Seattle high school parents to lobby the Governor’s office for a variance to allow in-person graduation ceremonies.  If you support this effort, please write to Governor Inslee!  Instructions for contacting the Governor’s office are below along with a template letter that you can edit and use.

Letters should be submitted through Gov. Inslee’s online contact form: https://www.governor.wa.gov/contact/contact/send-gov-inslee-e-message

Also email letters to the following individuals:

Maddy Thompson, Sr. Policy Advisor for Education – maddy.thompson@gov.wa.gov

Chris Reykdal, State Superintendent of Public Instruction – chris.reykdal@k12.wa.us.
