Garfield Y-Scholars – Currently Recruiting Incoming Freshmen
Y-Scholars is a free college access for African American students at Garfield high school. Every year they recruit 30 incoming freshmen who have the goal of attending a 4-year university.
Program highlights include:
- Afterschool study sessions during the week featuring support from Garfield teachers and tutors from local universities. Snacks too!
- Monthly field trips to in-state and out-of-state colleges, movies, businesses, and more!
- Individualized college readiness support (SAT Prep, college applications, personal statement essays, scholarships, etc.) during junior and senior year, which has resulted in 100% college acceptance rate!
- Academic support, social support, and incentives during all four years of the program.
