How the District is Determining Snow Make-up Days for the 2018-19 School Year
We recognize that school closures create schedule changes that are challenging for students, staff, and families. We appreciate your patience. Our number one priority during these storms has been the safety of our students and staff.
The 2019 collective bargaining agreement with the Seattle Education Association states that, “at least three snow days shall be scheduled, including the day between semesters, and the first two days following the last day of school in June. Additional snow make-up days may be added in June as necessary.”
This year’s school calendar included three make-up days, Jan. 30, June 21, and June 24. Governor Inslee declared a state of emergency providing school districts limited ability to obtain waivers from some snow days. We will assess all possibilities when determining a solution and work with our labor partners to finalize the adjusted school calendar.
Graduation dates will be reviewed once we have clarity on snow make-up days. No final decisions will be made this week (Feb. 11-15) as we continue to manage inclement weather that could result in additional school delays and closures. The district will communicate the final adjusted school calendar as soon as possible.
