Learn about levy’s school safety, health components

The Seattle City Council in spring 2025 is discussing a proposed $1.3 billion tax levy to fund a variety of programs that support families and children. Included in the six-year measure (which would renew and expand a previous levy) is a large investment in school safety and teen/young adult mental health services.

The levy itself will not specify detailed strategies.  Those are expected to be considered in the coming months, include stationing of a police officer on Garfield’s campus, and additional mental health counselors and other student services not provided by the School District’s own funding.

The Mayor’s Office and Council Members are inviting comments. (The levy proposal is expected to be finalized in June, and then go before the voters as part of the November 2025 election.) Below, some information sources and contact options.
