Meet David Johnson! GHS’s Boys Swim Coach
Coach Johnson graduated from GHS in 1979, where he swam in the state meet two years, won the Metro League championship in the 100 m. breaststroke, and swam at Junior Nationals with Cascade Swim Club. He graduated from Williams College in 1983, where he was a two-time NCAA Division III Swimming All-American and member of three teams that finished in the top three at DIII nationals. He earned an M.S. degree in Computer Science from the University of Washington in 1987 and was a software developer at Microsoft for many years.
Coach Johnson returned to Garfield as a volunteer swim coach in 2010. He became head coach of the girls swim team in 2015 and the boys team in 2016. He enjoys the opportunity to grow the swim team community at Garfield and make swimming an excellent experience for all participants. In addition to swimming, he is a climb leader and instructor for the Seattle Mountaineers and tries to keep up with his three kids ages 16, 18, and 20. – Thanks to Heidi King for this story.
