One Garfield

Meet Liz Glinski! New 2016 GHS Reading Teacher

Ms. Glinski comes from Buffalo, NY and taught 9th and 10th grade ESL for 2 years in New York City and 8th grade Language Arts for 2 years in Chapel Hill, North Carolina before coming to Garfield. She teaches Academic Reading using the Reading 180 program.

She loves Seattle so far, despite the rain! Her other schools were small, so she was apprehensive at first about being at a much larger campus, but still finds a warm community feeling at Garfield.

Her most recent read was Trigger Warning, a book of short stories by Neil Gaiman, and she loves the Harry Potter series. For kids she recommends Monster by Walter Dean Myers, or anything by that author, The Fault in Our Stars by John Green, or books turned into movies such as The Hunger Games and Divergent. Kids will best enjoy books that tap into their interests.

Her advice for students is to realize that attitude is half the battle, so they should think about what goals they want to achieve and find motivation and ways to accomplish them.
