PTSA Equity Project Update
Here’s an update on the PTSA Equity Project:
They have had two meetings, one in Hillman City and one in Beacon Hill, with a total attendance of 61. At these meetings, they shared some background about this project as well as some information about the structural racism that creates opportunity gaps between white students and students of color in Seattle. Attendees offered ideas for what a better future might look like, and how they’d like to be involved in this process going forward.
Their first advisory board meeting is this Thursday, Feb. 15. They have a group of leaders of color with expertise in education policy, racial equity, community outreach, and organizing who are willing to provide direction for the work.
Below are the upcoming community meetings – please note that the 2/17 Douglas-Truth meeting is cancelled since it fell during President’s Day weekend. It is in the process of being rescheduled.
