Rees to be Activities Coordinator, Englund to lead Athletics
Garfield Principal Tarance Hart has announced new roles in 2025-26 for two current staff members: Jamie Rees will be Activities Coordinator, and Chris Englund will be Athletic Director. Each position is half-time, so they will continue to handle some of their current duties.

As Activities Coordinator, Mr. Rees will oversee student clubs, ASB, student government, and all-school events. “This role ensures students have access to a wide range of leadership and extracurricular opportunities, while supporting advisors and helping build a strong, inclusive school culture,” Dr. Hart said.
Mr. Rees, who this year primarily handled academic intervention and other student support functions, also is certificated as a teacher. He is a 2008 Garfield graduate who earned his Bachelor’s at Harvard University.

As Athletic Director, Mr. Englund’s duties will include coordinating games and events, supporting coaches, and ensuring compliance with WIAA and District regulations. “This position is critical in sustaining safe, competitive, and equitable athletics for all student-athletes,” Dr. Hart said.
Mr. Englund, who is the parent of an incoming 9th-grader, has been teaching physical education and biology, and coaching golf at Garfield. (He will continue to teach PE next year.) His Bachelor’s in neurobiology is from UW, and he holds Master’s degrees from Western Governors University and Central Washington University.
He’s excited about the new role: “I look forward to helping our student-athletes add on to the proud legacy of Garfield athletics,” he said.
Dr. Hart said, “Mr. Rees and Mr. Englund are already well-known to our community, and we’re excited to see them take on these expanded responsibilities to support Garfield students.”
