9th Grade Parent Meeting — Thursday, Aug. 31

Dear Garfield Parents/Guardians,

Congratulations, you are now a Garfield Bulldog! Our mission at Garfield High School is to recognize our diverse history and educate all our students as they build confidence, become active citizens and achieve academic excellence. To accomplish this goal, we commit ourselves to involving school personnel, community members, students, and their families as partners in an ongoing process of educational improvement. At Garfield, we construct an environment of excellence and ethical growth for all. Students, faculty and staff continuously work to learn and grow. High school is an exciting time and the staff at Garfield is ready to provide you and your child with a wonderful and supportive learning opportunity for the next four years. We are pleased to begin this year as your educational partner, in order to make a positive difference here at Garfield High School.

The transition to high school is an important one; therefore we have a special 9thGrade Parent/Guardian Orientation planned for all freshman parents/guardians on Thursday, Aug. 31 from 6  – 8 PM in the Commons.  We want to welcome you to our school and inform you about some things you will want to plan for as a Garfield parent/guardian such as:

  • Mathematics & Science
  • Nurse & Teen Health Center
  • Language Arts & History
  • Electives & World Languages
  • English Language Learners
  • Service Providers
  • Academic Intervention Specialist & Counseling
  • Parent, Teacher, Student Association
  • Activities & Athletics
  • Individual Education

This night will allow you to get specific and accurate information about Garfield High School and our services, as well as give you the chance to meet other parents who are experiencing similar transitions.  Throughout the night you will meet Garfield High School staff, students and parents who will provide you with first-hand information and can help if you have questions.

LINK CREW!! All members of the class of 2021 will be part of Link Crew at GHS! Link Crew starts with an all-class assembly in the gym on Wednesday, August 30 at 9 AM. From there, students will break out into small, randomly chosen groups with two upper-class mentors. Small groups will participate in orientation exercises and a tour before reconvening as a class and having lunch. But Link Crew doesn’t end there! Throughout the year, mentors will check in with their group (including invitations to the Homecoming football game and dance) and arrange academic and social meet-ups. We’ll celebrate student successes along the way! Your student will get to know other freshmen and juniors and seniors who can guide and support them as they get settled into student life at Garfield.

Again, we look forward to building a powerful partnership with you and your child here at Garfield High School.

Sincerely,

Garfield High School Administrative Team
