Community Safety Meeting June 5

In light of the May 18 shooting in front of the Garfield Teen Life Center, the PTSA is committed to working with Principal Hart and others to develop more robust safety systems for the school campus. This week, Dr. Hart announced a Community Safety meeting via an email to families:

Garfield Community,

Garfield High School is hosting a Community Safety Meeting on Monday, June 5, 2023, from 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm in the Commons.  The goal of the meeting is to identify implementable solutions/strategies to address safety concerns on campus after school hours.

All Garfield families, students, and staff members are invited to attend.  This will be a solutions-oriented meeting.  While we recognize the importance of engaging the wider Seattle community, including our neighbors in the Central District, this meeting is specially planned to engage our Garfield community around campus safety.  A separate meeting is being scheduled to engage the wider Seattle and Central District communities.

Tentative Agenda

  1. Campus Safety Status and Updates
  2. Safety Plan for Finishing the School Year
  3. Safety Planning for the 2023-2024 School Year

A final agenda will be sent in advance of the meeting.  I look forward to having a productive meeting.  I hope to see you there.

In Partnership,

Principal Hart
