Class of 2025GHS

Congrats to Class of ’25 Merit Commended Students

College Board's logo for the PSATCongratulations to Garfield’s 11 National Merit Scholarship Commended Students in the Class of 2025. Their PSAT scores placed them in the top 50,000 fall 2023 test-takers, although they are not among the Semifinalists who are eligible for scholarships:

  • Mateo G. Acevedo
  • Zoe E. Davis
  • Adrien E. Howe
  • Ilana F. Jacobson
  • Eliot B. Kasha
  • Jaden R. Meyer
  • Arnav Pedapalli
  • Madeleine E. Rivard
  • Jasmine L. Trinh
  • Cole L. Yagi
  • Kairo S. Zimmerman-Goad

Earlier this school year, Garfield senior Paloma Oh was honored as one of the 16,000 high school students (out of 1.4 million!) whose high scores on that PSAT led to being a National Merit Semifinalist.

More than 15,000 semifinalists are expected to advance to the finalist level, and be eligible for National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $26 million. To become a finalist, students must submit academic, extracurricular, employment and other information.

The “Letters of Commendation” recognize a PSAT “selection index” score  above 208 but below the semifinalist level.

This score is on page 2 of the PSAT score report provided by schools, or can be seen by a student using the College Board’s “BigFuture School” app. (Note: this app is designed in part as a way to allow colleges and others to market to students, so your student may wish to opt out of the “Connections” features.)

Fall 2024 PSAT and SAT

Expected online release of results for Garfield’s “in-school” October 2024 PSAT and SAT tests: Nov. 7 (or possibly only Nov. 14). Students will need to have set up a College Board account and may need to use the BigFuture School app (see above).
