Disability History Awareness Month – One Out of Five Project

Disability History Awareness Month takes place during October to increase awareness, respect, and acceptance for people with disabilities and to bring a greater sense of pride to people with disabilities. During the month, each school is required to engage in activities that provide instruction, awareness, and understanding of disability history and people with disabilities.
The WA State Education Ombud’s office has made available a great instructional resource called the One Out of Five project. One out of five people in the United States has a disability, and this resource is designed to celebrate the history and identities within this large and diverse community.
