Garfield Wins State Championship in Knowledge Bowl!

The Garfield Trivia Club won their first ever State Knowledge Bowl Championship in stunning fashion! The State Knowledge Bowl Tournament was held this past weekend at Wenatchee High School in Wenatchee.

The team worked its way up from tenth to sixth position in the preliminary oral rounds, earning the sixth and final spot for the playoff rounds. In the semifinal round, Garfield faced top-ranked Peninsula one-on-one, and after the score was tied at halftime, and again at the end of regulation, finally overcame their opponent by scoring one more point in the tiebreaker. In the finals, Garfield finished strong in the second half, correctly answering questions at a furious pace down the stretch to triumph over other highly-ranked teams Mt. View (2nd) and Arlington (3rd) and win the state title.

The members of this year’s state championship team are Miles Boudinot (team captain), Ronan Fiat, Thomas Koehnline, and Andrew Leahy, all seniors. The team was coached by math teacher Jeff Nomura, in his eleventh year as coach.
