Meet Kayla Epting, Garfield PTSA President

Hello Garfield community!  I thought I would share a little about myself.  I am a single mother of an awesome daughter, Sunita, who is a rising sophomore at Garfield.  I grew up in Yesler Terrace and have lived in Seattle most of my life. Currently I live in Capitol Hill and I enjoy traveling.  For the past five years I have served on the Board of Directors at Southwest Youth and Family Services, where I chair the Gala and Race & Equity Committees.  I really enjoy the work of helping people achieve success.

My interest in the PTSA at Garfield began this past spring when a fellow parent reached out to me with concerns over communication and acquiring resources for school families during the COVID-19 pandemic. Once I saw how difficult it was for families to navigate resources I knew I had to get involved.  I have a strong love for community and social justice.  I am excited about coming on board and continuing/expanding the amazing work happening at Garfield.
