National Honor Society at GHS

Applications to the National Honor Society will be available in the Fall and due in October.  The Garfield chapter of National Honor Society was founded in 1921 to “create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, and to develop character in the students of secondary schools.”

Summer is an ideal time for students to build service hours as NHS eligibility demands a higher number of service hours than those on track for graduation.

NHS Member Requirements:

  • Be in 10th, 11th or 12th grade and enrolled in all core classes at Garfield/full Running Start schedule
  • Maintain a 3.5 minimum GPA (cumulative)
  • Attend all biweekly meetings (Mr. Leslie’s room 215)
  • Participate in Chapter Projects and service events
  • Seniors must already have 90 hours of service, juniors must have 60, and sophomores must have 30 in order to be eligible to apply
