Sarah Lessig swings a bat; shoots a basketballGarfield senior Sarah Lessig was honored at the 90th Annual Seattle Sports Star of the Year Awards, one of the area’s most prestigious sports events.

She’s the only high school student nominated in 2025 for the “Sports Star of the Year” in women’s sports. Sarah was a key player on the 2022, 2023 and 2024 Garfield Girls Basketball teams that each won the State 3A championship. She also has excelled on softball, baseball and flag football squads (at Garfield and beyond), and is a nationally known skateboarder.

That Olympian Jordan Chiles was announced on Feb. 27 as this year’s winner doesn’t reduce Sarah’s feat of being one of just five nominees. The others:

  • Chiles (Gold medal winner, 2024 Olympics, Team USA gymnastics)
  • Katie Holloway Bridge (Gold medal winner, 2024 Paralympics, Team USA sitting volleyball)
  • Nneka Ogwumike (Perennial WNBA All-Star, center for Seattle Storm)
  • Hana Moll (NCAA champion pole vaulter, UW Track and Field)

Sarah is headed to Princeton University in the fall. Learn more:
