Apply for PTSA Small Grants

The Garfield PTSA and Building Leadership Team (BLT) invite Garfield Staff (including Student Club Advisors) to apply for funding through our Small Grants program. Applications are considered several times a year and the first deadline is Friday, Oct. 20, 2023.

All info and forms are on the Small Grants web page.

Grant proposals are evaluated by the BLT, which considers:

  • How many students will benefit.
  • How sustainable or measurable the proposal effects are beyond a single year.
  • How each project serves students who have been traditionally underserved.
  • Initiatives without adequate alternate funding resources.

The process is easy! Read about it on the Small Grants web page.

Funded projects are wide ranging in type and size, with grants of between $200 and $2,500.

Examples of past funded projects:

  • Competition-related expenses for student clubs
  • Curriculum supplies for the math, language arts, special education, and world languages departments
  • Software for the counseling department
  • Books, such as collections of readers in native languages
  • Guest speaker fees
  • Art supplies to implement a new hallway mural
  • Microphones used in classrooms that provide real-time subtitles and translation in many languages to aid access to lecture and class discussions for students learning the English language.
  • Poetry workshops: Two all-day workshops for 9th and 10th grade students centered on using poetry and writing as tools of advocacy led by award-winning, native Seattleite poets who share their writing and work with students.

The Building Leadership Team is composed of Garfield administrators, teachers, staff and PTSA volunteers. The dollars are provided by the PTSA through its fundraising efforts.
