Meet Teen Health Center staff!

Steven Akuffo, MS, LMHC (he/him) is joining the Odessa Brown team in 2024-25 as a licensed clinical psychotherapist. Steven will be at Garfield Monday-Friday to provide individual therapy for students.

He specializes in Afrikan-centered psychotherapy and incorporates Afrikan cultural concepts to help improve the lives of people of Afrikan-decent. He has a focus on Black psychology, cultural trauma, family dynamics, and Black adult/adolescent behavior. Steven has experience working with youth and families of all ethnic backgrounds and has extensive training in cultural competency, trauma-informed care interventions and cognitive-based therapies.

Dr. Richelle Clifton, PhD (she/her) is a clinical psychologist who sees students for individual therapy on Mondays. Dr. Clifton works with young people to help them process tough times, manage stress , and understand and regulate their emotions.

Dr. Clifton is here to support and collaborate with youth on both coping with difficulties and working towards crafting a life full of possibility and joy.

Aaron Klein, ARNP (he/him); Kenisha Campbell, MD, MPH (she/her); Oriana Souers-Dilley, ARNP (she/her); and Shannon Nash, DNP (she/her) are the clinic’s medical providers.

They provide a variety of services, including:

  • well child exams
  • sports physicals
  • asthma care
  • vaccinations
  • reproductive health
  • gender affirming care
  • and more!

All medical providers at Garfield also practice at the Odessa Brown Children’s Clinic and may already serve as a primary care provider to some Garfield families.

Micky Kander, PA-C MPH MSW (he/him), is the psychiatric provider who specializes in both behavioral health and primary care. Mickey can see students for evaluation and treatment for concerns such as ADHD, anxiety, depression and PSTD. Mickey is at Garfield every Tuesday.
Jannet Nieves Noriega (she/her), is the clinic’s registered dietician and sees students for anything food and diet related. Nutrition services at Garfield are meant to support the patient’s nutrition goals – from sports nutrition to eating disorders and nutrient deficiencies. Jannet is at Garfield bi-weekly.
Michelle Reese (she/her), is the clinic’s Community Care Coordinator and helps connect patients and families to resources outside of school like food, clothing, or Medicaid/Apple Health. Tsega
Fadumo Adan (she/her) and Tsega Tekeste (she/her) are community mental health workers who help connect students and families to mental health resources outside of school.

This includes everything from external mental health therapy to after-school programs.

Melanie Cope (she/her) is the Clinic Coordinator and is at the Teen Health Center Monday-Friday. Mel helps with scheduling, outreach, and getting students and families signed up with the clinic.
Nisreen El-Saadoun, MPH (she/her) is Odessa Brown School-Based Health Program Manager. She is the programmatic point-of -contact and supports communications, partnerships, and operations of the Teen Health Center and other school-based health center sites.
