Orchestra Concert — Thursday, Oct. 18

Thursday, Oct. 18 is the first concert of the year, 7 PM at the Quincy Jones Auditorium! The students have been working very hard and it should be a great program. A sneak peek at what you will hear is as follows:

Freshman Orchestra: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Divertimento in F: a light-hearted amusement made seriously challenging by its pristine harmonies.

Concert Orchestra: Camille Saint-Saens, Danse Macabre: a tone poem telling the story of Death waking on Halloween to play his fiddle for dancing skeletons on the one night of the year that they emerge from their graves.

Symphony Orchestra: Antonin Dvorak, Symphony No. 9 “New World”: inspired by Dvorak’s time in America – a melding of the best of European orchestral writing with rhythmic and melodic inspiration from a new land.

Following tradition, there will be a bake sale prior and during the concert. These bake sales are an important part of FOGO and we love getting donations from families. Please sign up to bring treats and/or help out at the bake sale here:

The concert starts at 7 PM, but plan to come early and listen to some chamber music and enjoy a bahn mi sandwich and a baked treat. Out of respect to our student performers, please be very quiet if you arrive after the concert has started. And enjoy!
