Principal’s Newsletter – April 6th, 2021

Garfield Community,

A short newsletter today.

Thank you to all of you who were able to attend the PTSA Town Hall last night.  There were over 400 participants!!!  Thank you to the Garfield staff who participated and thanks to the PTSA crew, Ms. Epting, Ms. Dickerman and Ms. Hudson, who put it all together!  It was recorded so I’m attaching the link and passcode, if you weren’t able to make it last night.

In-person learning:  (At this Moment)

  • Seattle Public Schools and Seattle Education Association have agreed to a schedule for the return of secondary students, but at this moment members of SEA have not voted on the agreement.
  • Staff members have been in this week training and planning for the April 19th opening.  As I walked through the building today, I saw teachers working hard to get ready to welcome students.  We are excited.

Transportation:

In our attempt to get Orca cards sent to the school for distribution, we need something from you this week!

Please email the name of your student and their school ID number to either TransORCA@seattleschools.org , Ms. Devereaux, mndevereaux@seattleschools.org or Ms. Whitlock kiwhitlock@seattleschools.org.  Please put ORCA in the subject line.  If you can get that to us by Thursday afternoon we will have delivery by April 19th.

FINALLY:

I got to walk into a class with actual students today.  It was a wonderful thing.  One student I got to meet was a young lady who is a poet, a dancer and a singer.  She even sent me one of her poems! Brilliant!  She is the reason we do this.  Hope to see you all very soon.

One Garfield.

Respectfully,

Princess Shareef
