Spring Assessments and Testing Schedule

Washington State requires all districts to administer the Smarter Balanced Assessments (SBA) in English Language Arts (ELA) and Math as well as the Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science (WCAS). The Spring 2023 assessment and testing schedule is as follows:

All students in Grade 10 are expected to take the ELA and Math assessments.

  • Garfield HS will administer the ELA assessment April 24-28, from 8:50am to 3:40pm, in students’ language arts classes.
  • The Math assessment will be administered May 15-19, from 8:50am to 3:40pm, in students’ social studies classes.

Students in Grades 11 and 12 may take the SBA if needed to fulfill their graduation pathway.

  • Retakes for those students who have not passed or who have not yet taken the SBA will be administered April 24-28, from 8:50am to 3:40pm, in the Gym.

All students in Grade 11 are expected to take the WCAS.

  • Garfield HS will administer the WCAS May 30-June 2, from 8:50am to 3:40pm, in students’ science classes.

A district laptop is required for these tests. Please see Mr. Manzin in the Library to check out a laptop.

Accommodations are available for state testing per a student’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or 504 plan.  The accommodations must be indicated in the state assessments section of the student’s IEP or 504 plan.  Not all in-class daily accommodations are permitted on state assessments. OSPI provides an annual document that indicates approved tools, supports, and accommodations for state assessments.
