SPS Engagement Opportunities for Families

Dear families,

Summer vacation is just around the corner, but the work to improve systems at the district level continues. We are committed to gathering input from families and communities during several opportunities for involvement in the coming months.

Advanced Learning Task Force

Deadline May 24, noon

The goal is to rethink and re-examine our practices to ensure all students receive the high-quality instruction necessary to grow and achieve, across all of our schools. This Task Force will focus on the identification, support, services, operational systems and practices necessary to meet the academic, social, emotional and behavioral needs of highly capable and advanced learners.

Transportation Services Task Force

Deadline May 23

The primary purpose of the Transportation Services Task Force is to assist the Superintendent in revising policies and procedures that: review current transportation data and service standards; address current driver shortages as a system and identify strategies that support providing on time service delivery; identify and gather student voice; and review potential legislative recommendations that could allow flexibility in district funding for service delivery models.

Science Instructional Materials Adoption Committees, Grades K-5 and 6-8 (two committees)

Deadline May 29, 9 AM

Science Instructional Materials Adoption Committees, comprised of teachers, family and community members, will be formed and begin evaluating instructional materials for K-8 science. This work is to replace elementary instructional materials adopted in 1995 and middle school instructional materials adopted in 2003. Work will begin in June. If approved by the Seattle School Board, the new instructional materials will be ready for implementation by the 2019-20 school year.

You may join the K-5 committee or the Grades 6-8 committee.
