Please Help Garfield Families in Need

This is a joyful time of year for many of us, but full of financial anxiety and stress for some families.

Nearly 700 Garfield students (more than 40% of the student body) qualify for Free & Reduced Price Lunch. About 100 students are experiencing homelessness.

Help our community to wrap our arms around them. The PTSA’s Holiday Family Support Campaign will lighten the load for those who need extra support this winter season.

Your donation by Monday, Dec. 11, will bring more peace and joy to GHS kids and their families through retail gift cards that will pay for necessities such as a warm coat, clean clothing, or food on the table … or wished-for holiday presents.

How to help

You can give in 3 ways:

Online credit card donation
(PTSA buys gift cards, so this donation will be tax-deductible for most people.)
Donate buttonNote: Use “Support Special Projects” menu to identify the purpose for your donation
Checks made out to Garfield PTSA
(Memo of “Holiday Giving”; will be tax-deductible for most people.)
Please drop off in the Main Office (safest for cards)
… or mail to:
Garfield High School
Attn: GHS PTSA Holiday Giving
400 23rd Ave.
Seattle WA 98122
Gift Card(s) in increments of $25-50 (Safeway, Wal-mart, Grocery Outlet, Ross Dress for Less, Amazon)

What happens after you donate
Ms. Porcia Beard, the GHS Attendance Intervention and Success Coordinator, manages the Student and Family Support office. She can offer items and services such as school supplies, snacks/food during the day, and laundry options.

But she says the gift cards she distributes have the most tangible impact of helping kids and families. Gift cards are given in increments of $25-50, most often to stores such as Safeway, Wal-mart, Grocery Outlet, and Ross Dress for Less.

Any donations, large or small, are greatly appreciated.

Please send gifts by Monday, Dec. 11, for timely distribution before the break. Gifts received after this date will be distributed in January when school resumes.

Thank you!
