R3 Introduction to the Construction Trades

R3 Community Services, in partnership with Garfield High School, will be hosting a six-week Introduction to the Construction Trades program, May 22-June 30. Fifteen high school students are invited to attend a three-hour after-school class, five days per week. Classes will be held at Garfield High School and will involve hands-on training with trade workers and contractors. Students will visit job sites and tour programs at Renton Technical College, including the Pre-Apprenticeship Construction Training (PACT) program.

Students will learn about:

Construction trades
Financial empowerment
On-the-job soft skills
Physical fitness
OSHA 10 certification
Fork lift operation

Students that complete the class will receive a $750 stipend courtesy of WSDOT, R3, and Your Money Matters.
