Principal Hart email about 2024 PSAT, SAT

On Sept. 27, 2024, Principal Tarance Hart sent the following email about SAT and PSAT tests:

We are pleased to inform you that all 11th- and 12th-grade students in Seattle Public Schools will have the opportunity to take the PSAT and SAT free of charge during the school day this October.  We encourage all families to review the important details below.

Key Dates:

  • PSAT for 11th-graders: Thursday, Oct. 24, 2024
  • SAT for 12th-graders: Friday, Oct. 25, 2024
  • Make-up date (for both exams): Monday, Oct. 28, 2024 – this is the only scheduled make-up date.

Both exams will be administered digitally, and students are required to use their SPS-issued devices to take these tests. No additional registration is needed, as students are automatically registered for their respective exams.

Bluebook Application Information

All students taking the digital PSAT or SAT will use the College Board’s Bluebook application. The Bluebook app is a secure platform specifically designed for administering these exams, and it is essential that students understand how to access and use it properly to avoid any technical issues on test day.

Here’s what families and students need to know about the Bluebook app:

  • Purpose: The Bluebook application ensures the integrity of the testing process by allowing only the test to run on the student’s device during the exam. No other applications or processes can be open while Bluebook is running. If Bluebook detects any other applications running, the test results could be invalidated.
  • Access: Students must use their district-provided laptops to take the exam. Before test day, students will need to log into their devices using the credentials below to ensure the Bluebook app is installed and functioning properly:

Username: APBluebook

Password: college

Once logged in, students should see the Bluebook icon on their desktop. If the app is not installed, they can click on the “Install Bluebook” icon to initiate installation. We strongly recommend that students log in at least a week before test day to ensure the app is ready to use. If installation is needed, it may take up to 10 minutes for the app to fully install. Students should make sure the application is installed in advance to avoid last-minute issues on test day.

Practice Tests:

Students can take practice tests using their normal user accounts. However, on the actual test day, they must log in with the APBluebook account to ensure no other processes are running. Students should use their registered email address when signing into Bluebook for practice tests.

Accommodations for Students:

If your student requires accommodations for the PSAT or SAT, please note that the deadline for accommodation requests was in August, before the start of the school year. The College Board must approve accommodations in advance, and while accommodations are not guaranteed, they are typically granted to students with a documented need.

For families who missed the deadline or have questions about previously submitted requests, we encourage you to contact the College Board directly. More information and assistance are on their official College Board Accommodations page.

Preparing for the Exams:

We encourage students to use the free preparation resources available through the College Board, including practice tests and study guides on their website. These resources can help students feel more confident and perform their best on test day.

In partnership,

Principal Hart
