ACT Theatre Honors Garfield Student Playwrights!!
ACT Theatre, located in downtown Seattle, has just announced that it will produce plays written by Garfield seniors Eva G. and Joshua D. at the Young Playwrights Festival this spring!
For the past few months, Mr. Kahn’s twelfth grade Language Arts classes have been participating in the Young Playwrights Program (YPP) with ACT Theatre. Students in these three classes wrote plays with the help of professional writers Mallery Avidon and Jordan-Michael Whidbey. These plays were then entered into a playwriting competition held by ACT Theatre, which selects eight plays from schools across the city for the Young Playwrights Festival each spring.
On Monday, Dec. 10, at the YPP Celebration, ACT Theatre announced that Eva’s play INVISIBLE and Josh’s play THE STAR had been selected out of more than 250 plays submitted by students in ten different schools! INVISIBLE and THE STAR will be presented by a professional team of local directors and actors at the Young Playwrights Festival, which will be March 28-30 at ACT Theatre.
Congratulations to Eva and Joshua for winning top honors at ACT Theatre!
Other Garfield students were recognized at the YPP Celebration with Honorable Mentions for their work: Monique A., Deegii A., Isis B.-C., Catrin D., Elaine D., Lynette F., Milena H., Julia H., Julia L., Lisette M., Ana O., Becca S., Sosuna T., Danae T., Thomas T., and Muna Y.
