Congrats to Garfield’s National Merit Semifinalists!
Congratulations to Garfield’s three National Merit Semifinalists: Kyle Cobden, Cyrus Edwards and Abby Nakamoto, all of the Class of 2024.
They join roughly 16,000 other students nationwide who had the highest scores on the 2022 PSAT, a standardized test taken by high school juniors that helps qualify them for the award.
About 95% of the semifinalists nationwide are expected to be named finalists in February; of those, about 7,140 will go on to receive scholarships that together total nearly $28 million. To become a finalist, students must submit academic, extracurricular, employment and other information.
Garfield 11th-graders will be taking the PSAT in school on Oct. 26 as a practice for the SAT and to qualify for the National Merit Scholarship Program. All 10th-graders will also be taking the PSAT that day, as a practice.
