Meet Rich Ramsey! 2017-2018 GHS School Nurse

Mr. Ramsey grew up in Rhode Island, California and Colorado. He earned a BA in history from the University of Florida. He then pursued a law degree at American University in Washington DC where he worked in a number of social justice roles as well as serving as a high school civics teacher. Rich practiced law in New York City for 11 years specializing in professional liability insurance coverages.

In 2009, Rich and his husband Charles decided to make a big change and move to Seattle. Rich continued to work remotely as a lawyer for his firm. He started thinking about making a career change to help people in a different way. Rich became involved with three different volunteer projects. He volunteered at Bailey Boushay House working with the HIV+ community, supported a project in Tanzania that supports HIV+ orphans and their caregivers, and published research on pediatric palliative care policy in the U.S. Rich was drawn to nursing by the ideas of improving the health of populations through health education, programs and policies. He earned his Master in Nursing – Community Public Health in 2016 through Seattle University’s Advanced Practice Immersion Program. Rich worked as a school nurse in Kent School District for 1.5 years as well as at Seattle Children’s Hospital in both the Surgical Unit and its Adolescent Medicine Clinic. He is currently the school nurse at Jane Addams Middle School, but lives in the Garfield neighborhood.

Rich enjoys travelling, cooking for friends, and watching movies. He is passionate about University of Florida Gator sporting events. Rich has two Cockapoos, Roger and Dottie Hinkle, and 3 tabby cats.
