Program at GHS Gives 44 Seniors Instant College Admission

For 44 Bulldogs in the Class of 2024, the process of getting into a good college became a lot easier recently. Representatives of Central Washington University, Washington State University and Portland State University came to Garfield to make on-the-spot offers of admission in a simple, speedy process. 

Of the 51 students who participated in the CWU, WSU, and PSU instant admissions events in December and January, 44 were accepted immediately at one or more schools. About one-third also received a scholarship offer. The other seven will be applying through the general admissions process.

The students now have until the schools’ normal reply date in spring (or later) to accept or decline the offer.

“I appreciate the opportunity to get instant admissions,” said Senior Ricco Graves. “It helped me feel good about my college options while I wait to hear from my Common App schools.”

To be part of the process, students had to register in advance, bring a transcript and sit for a short interview with an admissions rep. (Two of the schools also specified a minimum GPA.) The rep usually provided an immediate decision. No application fees, no waiting!
