New version of menus for ’24-25

Breakfast and lunch are served daily at Garfield at no charge to any student.
Here is general info on nutrition at Garfield and in the District, including how to alert the Culinary Services Department to a student’s special needs.
View daily (but not weekly or monthly) menus online, check for allergens, rate the food, and more. The allergen content is accessed by clicking on an individual meal item, and the “Mealviewer” app available for free download can be set to warn of specific allergens in that day’s menu. Processed foods don’t appear to have a full ingredients list.
The ratings system, also accessed by clicking on a specific food item, features efforts at humorous emojis and statements such as the unhappy “I’m going to pay for this later, aren’t I”; the so-so “I may be developing a twitch. I had such high hopes”; and the upbeat “Lunch on fleek!” (See screen grabs.)
Several more potential “review” comments pop up as the discerning diner moves a slider to select any number between 0 (worst) and 100 (best). The website, at the time of this post’s publication, didn’t explain how to use the ratings system or whether the District will receive, review and act on the information.
SPS menus are planned to meet or exceed USDA menu planning regulations for school meals.
SPS Culinary Services have new initiatives partnering with local farmers and local chefs to create recipes that appeal to students and utilize fresh seasonal (local) ingredients.
