Students sought for Youth Traffic Court
Calling all students interested in helping make the justice system work well, by participating in Seattle Youth Traffic Court.
An alternative to traditional juvenile court, Youth Courts are established by judges to involve trained high school students in adjudicating minor offenses by peers.
Garfield High School students can serve as jurors, judges, attorneys, and bailiffs during real court hearings. Students work closely with Seattle University School of Law staff and students, Seattle Municipal Court judges and Seattle Police Department officers.
Trainings begin Monday, Sept. 9, and are open to all current Garfield students. Hearings begin on Sept. 16 and there is a full slate of teen defendants. This is a great way to earn service hours and build a college resume.
